Bb CLARINET

instrument

Buffet R-13: The Legendary Choice of Professionals was created in 1955 by Robert Carrée and is the most popular professional clarinet in the world. Its tone is focused and rich, and it is powerful in all registers. Its flexibility lends itself to all repertoires: symphonies or chamber music, soloists, teachers, military bands, students or amateurs.
Buffet R-13: “I play the Buffet R-13 Bb Clarinet, SN 47xxxx. It’s the best.” – Cb

modifications

BARREL: “I use a Backun Cocobolo Fat Boy Barrel with my Buffet R-13. And I truly find that there is a big difference in the focus and center of my tone. Intonation is extremely consistent in all registers as well.” – Cb

BELL: “I use a Backun Traditional Cocobolo Bell with my Buffet R-13. And I am pleased with how the Backun Voicing Groove really improves the clarion register while smoothing the break between registers as advertised.” – Cb

mouthpieces

I play a handmade Frank L. Kaspar “SUPERB” (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and also a custom Charles Bay as my backup mouthpiece on clarinet. I love them both, but each has their own properties and characteristics.I have several Vandoren mouthpieces as well.

My clarinet mouthpieces are extremely rare. However, there are numerous contemporary mouthpiece artisans who are creating superior custom mouthpieces worth consideration. Also, larger companies such as Vandoren, D’addario, and others offer stock mouthpieces that economically emulate the standards of the great custom pieces. You can get those mouthpieces at most local music stores or online.” – Cb

reeds

I use and recommend Vandoren Reeds exclusively!

Vandoren V12 3.5 and 3.5+ strength

“I tried all of the major brands of reeds, including the latest in synthetic reeds and have found that I prefer the overall response from Vandoren cane reeds for the type of playing I am doing as a private studio teacher and wind ensemble principle clarinetist. V12 models are cut from a thicker blank and seem to fit the mouthpiece better width wise too. The vibrating surface is longer which gives me a better response when tonguing and a fuller tone quality than other reeds.I also found a strange personal situation in that the synthetic reeds injured my tongue if I played for sustained periods of practice and performance. The clarinet sound I get with the Vandoren V12 Reeds is most consistent among that brand for me and clean in all ranges of the instrument. I have always preferred the sound of excellent cane reeds.” – Cb

Eb Alto Saxophone

instrument

I play and officially endorse Selmer (Paris) Saxophones exclusively!
Christopher Burnett Quintet

“In addition to the patented key work mechanisms and tone hole placements, I believe that the special (brass metal work) annealing process used in the manufacturing of Selmer Paris Saxophones makes them the superior choice in that there is a “weight” and “substance” to the instrument that other horns don’t have when I play them.

This special manufacturing process stabilizes important harmonics throughout the scale and thus, the vibrations throughout the instrument while playing it are inherently harmonious with note frequencies.” – Cb

Jazz + Recording Studio Alto Saxophone

reeds

I use and recommend Vandoren Reeds exclusively!

“I use Vandoren Reeds exclusively on my alto saxophone and clarinets. Tried every reed out there but keep coming back to Vandoren. Blue Box and Java on alto saxophone! And V-12 on Bb and bass clarinets! These cane reeds are superior to any other reeds I have played in terms of consistency, with an evenness of responsiveness throughout the range of the instrument, longevity of life – a genuinely pure saxophone tone quality. Immediate articulation and no “drama” in extreme ranges. I have literally tried every major reed manufactured today for my instruments” – Cb

*PURCHASE: Vandoren Reeds for Alto Saxophone are typically in stock at our local music dealer

C FLUTE

instrument

We both play Miyazawa Flutes.

“I recorded part of my warmup for low register practice session today. I’m still getting acquainted with my new Miyazawa flute. I’m very pleased with every register, especially the low end. I also notice the fluidity in mechanism technique enhanced by the Brögger System™.”

We both play Miyazawa Flutes.

SOUND SYSTEMS

microphone

I have been using Shure Microphones since my days performing concerts around the world with military bands. I like the Shure Wireless System with a clip on microphone because I am able to move around any performance stage without losing any sound system presence.
